Lots of space news this week. How does that fit into the Star Wars universe? We also put Han Solo in the hot seat of the Galaxy's Smallest Political Quiz. And, Star Wars news about principle filming of the new Han Solo movie spin-off, a tribute to Carrie Fisher on The Last Jedi, and Rogue One Blu-ray release information.
"The discovery gives us a hint that finding a second Earth is not just a matter of if but when," Thomas Kutcher, an associate administrator of the science mission directorate at NASA headquarters in Washington, said.
Perhaps one of the most dramatic things that visitors to the TRAPPIST-1 system would notice is the view of the other six planets in the sky. In some cases, a neighboring planet might appear twice as large as the full moon seen from Earth.
Alan Stern, principle investigator of Nasa’s New Horizons mission to Pluto, along with five colleagues, has written a manifesto rewriting the definition of what constitutes being a planet.
One of the key changes is that worlds no longer need to be orbiting the sun to be considered planets, according to The Times.
If the proposals are accepted by the International Astronomical Union (IAU), the current eight-planet solar system could see more than 100 added to it.
The latest idea is to send a submarine to explore Titan's alien seas. The mission study, with funding from NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts (NIAC), an initiative for projects by scientists who think outside the box, is in its infancy.
"We do these really advanced almost-science-fiction — but never actually-science-fiction — studies that are meant to show what might be possible in the future," says NIAC's Program Executive Jason Derleth.
A Titan sub fits that bill perfectly.
This week, we take a bit of a softball and look at Han Solo. How does he score in the political spectrum?
"I'm in it for the money." He's into capitalism and the free market.
"Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." He's clearly pro-gun.
"Look, your worshipfulness, let’s get one thing straight. I take orders from just one person: me."
The new Staw Wars spin-off movie has begun principle filming. This prequel will focus on the adventures of a young Han Solo and sidekick Chewbacca before the events of the first film in the Star Wars franchise, A New Hope.
